Head of Software Engineering (m/f/d)

Role Summary

We are seeking a hands‑on Head of Software Engineering to define and deliver the software strategy for our document processing machines. You will lead cross‑disciplinary teams (embedded, backend, UI/UX, automation), own software architecture and the full product lifecycle, and drive modernization initiatives such as CI/CD, DevOps, IoT and Industry 4.0 integration.

Your tasks:

  • Define and execute the software strategy and roadmap for document processing products.
  • Lead and grow interdisciplinary teams (embedded, backend, frontend, QA, automation); hire, mentor and set performance goals.
  • Own software architecture and lifecycle: design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance and decommissioning.
  • Ensure reliability, performance and security of production systems through observability, testing and Site Reliability Engineering practices.
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, product and operations to align technical decisions with business needs.
  • Drive automation and digitalization: document workflows, IoT connectivity, remote diagnostics and Industry 4.0 features.
  • Introduce and optimize development processes including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DevOps culture.
  • Measure and improve system performance through profiling, capacity planning and continuous improvement cycles.

Your profile:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in software development within industrial or embedded product environments.
  • Leadership track record managing software teams and delivering complex projects on schedule.
  • Technical breadth: embedded systems, real time control software, industrial interfaces and networking.
  • Familiarity with automation or document processing systems is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with code review processes, coding standards and technical governance.
  • Familiarity with security best practices (OWASP, secure coding).
  • Knowledge of standards and compliance relevant to industrial software and product safety.
  • Strategic mindset with strong stakeholder communication and business acumen.
