Group Leader, Software Engineer

Muhlbauer, Inc., seeks a Group Leader, Software Engineering to work at the company’s headquarters in Newport News, Virginia. Will be responsible for the following:

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  •          Manage a team of software engineers;
  •          Lead resource allocation, hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and managing performance of the software engineering team;
  •          Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of software engineering projects within the scope, budget, and the timeline;
  •          Identify software product problems through user outreach, site visits, and other actions;
  •          Set clear team goals and objectives aligned with the organization's mission and vision;
  •          Ensure the quality of Automation, Software Development, and Testing;
  •          Lead the development of the conceptual software design;
  •          Lead the development of the Automation machinery concepts;
  •          Ensure the design of the machine control systems is according to CE and the local authoritative safety requirements;
  •          Lead the preparation of software for serial lot assembly, customer upgrades, and new machines. Lead the identification of deficiencies/weaknesses (with supporting data and calculations) in software processes and ensure the development of improvements;
  •          Meet with business management, Sales, Assembly, members of the Research and Development team, Procurement, and suppliers to discuss product ideas;
  •          Redesign products to enhance equipment functionality and application, reduce lead time, due to the product end of life (obsolete) or to reduce cost;
  •          Create design projects and specification sheets including test instructions for new process and parts;
  •          Present product designs and prototypes to top management, Sales and customers;
  •          Oversee the engineering of product prototypes;
  •          Develop and distribute Engineering Change Notice (ECN) to all relevant departments or personnel;
  •          Ensure product and equipment issues are resolved internally (Assembly, Service, Carrier Tape Production and inter plant support) and externally (Customer) by remote or onsite support;
  •          Conduct 5S activities at the workspace frequently and practice throughout relevant Research and Development offices;
  •          Conduct and document training for personnel from Assembly, Training Center, Service, Carrier Tape Production, Sales, and customer;
  •          Collaborate with Project Managers for proper allocation and tracking of resources for on-time completion of tasks, projects, and evaluations;
  •          Act as internal project manager for development and evaluation of projects;
  •         Ensure critical analysis is documented and solutions for corrective and preventive actions are provided; and
  •         Support selection and purchasing of items necessary for technical support, defining and clarifying questions and specifications for suppliers.

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering or an equivalent foreign degree;
  • Two years of relevant post-bachelor experience in developing, installing, and testing software for industrial machines and providing software engineering support to customers, including training and servicing. Required experience must include the following:
    • Experience with Machine Automation software programming using: C, C++, C#;
    • Experience with developing software for MS DOS, real-time operating system, and embedded environment;
    • Experience with automation machinery concepts, closed loop control, driving techniques and microelectronics;
    • Proficiency with MS office;
    • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills;
    • Proficiency with analyzing technical tasks and developing creative and cost-conscious solutions;
    • Independent, hardworking with proven leadership skills;
    • Practice-oriented, aim/goal oriented, ability to work under pressure; and
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
    Travel up to 50% within U.S and 10% internationally.
